San Diego -- The Aflac All-Americans got down to business Friday morning as they went through their first drills and scrimmage at the University of San Diego’s Cunningham Field.
During infield and outfield practice it was evident why these players are considered the best at their positions. Crisp, accurate, strong throws and highlight reel plays were the norm. Batting practice followed and line drives and deep blasts kept everyone on their toes.
After the scrimmage and lunch, the players bussed to Rady Children’s Hospital to spend time with the patients there. But before they met the kids, they broke down into four groups and were taken on a guided toured of the hospital.
Later, the playroom was the center of the action where All-American’s helped kids make crafts, played baseball with inflatable ball and bat, or did battle on video games. They also autographed posters and presented them to the patients. After the hospital visit the players headed to dinner at the hotel followed by some well deserved free time with their family.
Their day of activities concluded with All-Americans filming their player introductions for Fox Sports Net.
Saturday will also be a full day for the participants. After their morning workout, they will participate in the first round of the Home Run Derby. The top sluggers will advance to the final round Sunday afternoon. Additionally the players will then take part in signing their baseball cards made courtesy of Topps and the evening will come to a close with the player awards banquet at the San Diego Hall of Champions.
